David Keeps, home editor for the LA Times, fell in love with our limited-edition cast glass firelogs after our most recent e-blast and decided to put them on the blog for the home section of the Los Angeles Times. Along with Chad DeWitt, who collaborated on these pieces, I’m really pleased to have them featured and I hope that the new edition will be a smash success.

Please check out:

– our new web page on the logs
– the LA Times blog posting
– Chad DeWitt’s site and latest work

Thanks also to my good buddy Jon Taylor, who has enough taste to design not only his clients’ homes and workspaces but also his own – enough so that I decided to shoot the logs in his Oakland hills home, just up the hill. Thanks, Jon and Tom – the photos came out much better this time…

Last, thanks to my Scott Hammond for taking care of, and improving, benroth.com post-haste. It was a shambles before and during, but now it sparkles again.

UPDATE: An edited version of the blog post also ran in the LA Times print edition, Home section on August 1, 2009. Thanks David!

Thanks to one of our retailers, some of the new “tall bottles” were placed in a spread on page 123 of the August 2008 issue of Better Homes & Gardens.  I would never have thought that they might end up as a table centerpiece, but they seemed to work well for the shoot at least…

So it’s a bit of a stretch, but our solid vases are mentioned in comparison to Carnival Glass – you know, that iridescent, faceted stuff your grandmother has in the breakfront. Of course, there’s not much comparison but here’s how it goes:

A couple of years ago I worked on a project with fellow CCA alum Chad DeWitt, making what are now our Glass Logs for the Sunset Idea House at the magazine’s HQ. I periodically get calls from one editor or another at Sunset asking about products for various features, and this time they called me with the idea that they liked a few vases as perhaps a contemporary comparison to Carnival Glass from the early part of the 20th century.

The pieces they were requested were white, and therefore not very photogenic for the spread. After a little talking I decided it would be a good chance to test out some new colors, so we blew a few solid vases in some orangey-apricot tones.

Long story short, they worked for the article in the August 2008 issue of Sunset Magazine, and now I’m thinking they might make a nice color palette for a new Stripe Vase…

I’m thoroughly pleased with the placement – and the magazine overall, which is a full-color, large format, perfect-bound freebie! They were featured in the June 2008 issue. Thanks again, Karen!
